Co-coordinator of the European chapter - Global Youth Biodiversity Network
Esmeralda is a young belgian environmentalist. Their background is in cultural anthropology and environmental sciences. They first got involved in their local community, by starting the first community compost in their hometown and working as a project manager for the Nature Park High Fens - Eifel, a transboundary protected area between Belgium and Germany.
After hearing about the 1.5 report of the IPCC in 2018, they thought it was time to do something bigger than local action. They got selected to represent Belgian youth at the UNFCCC COP25 and have never stopped being engaged since then.
They are now part of the coordination team of the European chapter of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, the official youth constituency of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and have been active to have youth voices represented in the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
