European Green Leaf 2026 Opening Ceremony – Águeda

The Opening Ceremony of European Green Leaf 2026 marks the official start of Águeda’s Green Leaf year, bringing together EU, national and local leaders to celebrate community-driven action for a greener future.

Águeda officially launches its year as European Green Leaf 2026 on 8 January 2026 with a public Opening Ceremony at the Águeda Arts Centre, Portugal.

This event brings together local, regional, national and European representatives to celebrate Águeda’s achievements in sustainability and community-led environmental efforts. The programme features artistic performances by local students, the symbolic entrance [presentation? hand-over?] of the European Green Leaf Award Plaque, and the screening of official European Green Leaf videos.

Prominent speeches will be delivered by the Mayor of Águeda, representatives of the European Commission, and national and regional authorities, highlighting the role of smaller cities in delivering Europe’s green transition.

The event also showcases Águeda’s future ambitions, including the presentation of the Environmental Park of Águeda project, while acknowledging the contribution of schools, ecoparishes and local green ambassadors to sustainability in the community. The ceremony concludes with an eco-cultural moment and an informal time to explore the city.
