Green City Accord Ceremony 2022

Leading Europe towards a greener future

Join us for this year’s Green City Accord High-Level Conference online or on-site in Brussels on 29 November 14:00 – 17:00 CET

1. Policy debate

2030 is around the corner - how can cities and the EU speed up their cooperation to make European cities places that offer a high quality of life, a healthy environment, and achieve climate neutrality within 8 years?

The Green City Accord and the EU Mission for Climate Neutral Cities are two complementary initiatives, Under the GCA, signatories commit to taking further action on air, water, nature, waste and noise to become greener, cleaner, and healthier cities by 2030. Under the Mission, cities commit to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. The overall purpose of the debate is to show how the GCA framework complements climate action with a particular focus on the Horizon Mission. Mayors will share their experiences and plans on how they hope to reach the climate and environmental goals 2030 in an integrated fashion together with Patrick Child, Deputy Director General for DG Environment & EU Mission manager for climate-neutral and smart cities.

2. The commitment ceremony

Mayors can renew their political commitment, with the EU Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius, DG Environment being present. Each mayor present can briefly outline what the city plans to achieve in the next years through the Green City Accord.

Further mayors renewing their commitment online will each be invited to present themselves and their city.

This is followed by a photo opportunity for all mayors attending and the Environment Commissioner, and a separate one for mayors attending online.

Register here to participate online or in person on 29 November.

The event will take place at SPARKS
