Description
The 2nd Talk on "Zero Pollution and Foresight: building a Zero Pollution future" was held online on 11 July (10:30 – 11:30) CEST.
Foresight involves exploring, anticipating and shaping the future by using collective intelligence in a structured way, and imagining various ways in which our future could unfold. Strategic foresight seeks to embed foresight into EU policy-making, to develop possible transition pathways, prepare the EU to withstand shocks and shape the future we want.
The EU Foresight System for the identification of emerging environmental issues and related opportunities and risks (FORENV) is a complementary European Commission foresight exercise to improve the quality of policy development. In support of the Zero Pollution Action Plan, FORENV published a synthesis report on ‘Delivering a zero pollution ambition by 2050’ which also fed into the 2022 Zero Pollution Outlook.
The Zero Pollution Talk looked at the lessons learnt from these exercises and discussed on how they can inform policies for a Zero Pollution future.
Keynote speakers:
- Grzegorz Drozd, Team Leader, Foresight & Strategic Communication, Secretariat General, European Commission
- Owen White, co-author EU Environmental Foresight (FORENV) Report, and Managing Consultant, Eunomia Research and Consulting
- Maciej Krzysztofowicz, Policy Analyst, Competence Centre on Foresight, Joint Research Centre of the European Commission
- Ana Jesus, Integrated Environment Assessment Expert, European Environment Agency
Moderated by Joachim D'Eugenio, Policy Adviser for Zero Pollution, European Commission and Giustino Piccolo, Policy Officer at the Committee of the Regions.
