Chemicals strategy: high-level roundtable adopts joint report on enforcement and compliance

On 25 November 2021, the high-level roundtable on the implementation of the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability adopted a joint report on compliance and enforcement of chemicals legislation, which is one of the important action areas of the Strategy. The members of the Roundtable - consisting of stakeholders from industry, civil society, academia, international organisations and the Member State holding the EU Presidency agreed on a set of 10 recommendations. Successful enforcement for chemicals in the EU must ensure that only compliant chemical substances, products or services are produced or put on the EU Single Market, including from online sources and imports from third countries. Implementing the recommendations to get there requires leveraging the collective strength of stakeholders and authorities. The need for a collaborative approach was echoed by the invited speakers, the Chair of the ECHA Forum for Exchange of Information on Enforcement and the Head of the Belgian General Administration of Customs and Excises. The recommendations will be followed-up in breakout sessions of the Roundtable.
