As of September 2025, 3 384 licences* have been awarded for 109 096 products (comprising goods and services) on the European Economic Area (EEA) market.

Since March 2025, there has been a consistent upward trend in the awarding of licences and products, with most EU Ecolabel product groups experiencing growth. The number of current EU Ecolabel awarded licences and products is the highest ever registered so far. This increase demonstrates a growing and consistent interest in eco-friendly, innovative and competitive products among businesses, retailers and consumers.    

Compared to the figures from March 2025, there has been a notable increase in:

  • The total number of awarded products (+6 723 products = +7%)
  • The total number of awarded licences (+ 136 licences = +4%)

* A licence refers to an EU Ecolabel contract encompassing one or several awarded products within the same product group. 

** Indicative percentage calculated on partial data (2 768 active companies registered in the EU Ecolabel Product Catalogue and the EU Ecolabel Tourist Accommodation Catalogue).

Licences and products per country

Overall, France, Germany, Italy and Spain remain the top-awarding countries in terms of both licences and products. Explore the map below to see how many licences and products have been awarded by the national Competent Bodies in each country (but products can be available in several countries).  

Licences and products per product group

Out of the total 3 384 licences, most belong to the following product groups: Tourist accommodations (26%), Hard surface cleaning products (13%), Indoor cleaning services (8%) and Tissue paper and tissue products (8%). 

The most popular product groups in terms of number of products continue to be: Indoor and outdoor paints and varnishes (35%), Tissue paper and tissue products (19%), Textiles (10%), and Hard surface cleaning products (8%). 

Most EU Ecolabel product groups have again witnessed an increase in the number of both licences and products. 

Additional explanation on the evolution of selected product groups:  

  • In 2020, Printed paper, stationery paper and paper carrier bag products (Decision (EU) 2020/1803) merged the three former product groups Converted Paper, Newsprint paper and Printed Paper. 
  • In 2020, Electronic Displays (Decision (EU) 2020/1804) replaced the former product group Televisions 
  • In 2021, Cosmetic products (Decision (EU) 2021/1870) replaced the former product group Rinse-off cosmetics and now includes both, Rinse-off and Leave-on cosmetics. New criteria were also adopted in 2021 for Animal care products (Decision (EU) 2020/1804). 
  • In 2022, Growing media and soil improvers (Decision (EU) 2022/1244) replaced the former product group Growing media, soil improvers and mulch. 
  • In 2023, new criteria were adopted for Absorbent hygiene products and for Reusable menstrual cups
