AI-led design in circular production

Establishing a synthesis of human artisanship with computer-aided design.

A new project, AI CIRCULAR is underway that aims to revolutionise the way garments are designed and manufactured. Led by an AI-driven design process, the project seeks to establish a harmonious relationship between human artisanship and computer-aided design. The project will be implemented by Knitwear Lab, which boasts a vast infrastructure in 3-D knitting.

AI-led design in circular production

At the heart of the project, which was the recipient of an EU WORTH Partnership Project grant, is the goal to preserve the cultural heritage of European textile production while incorporating generative design techniques. Research is an essential part of the process, and it is the first stage of the project.

Resource-conscious techniques, such as those present in the zero-waste, circular production cycle approach of Knitwear Lab, will be used. The project will also make use of sustainable materials, including biodegradable and recycled yarns.

New technologies such as AI have become more affordable and accessible in recent years. This accessibility has opened up the potential for exploration by everyone, with the project seeking to take advantage of these developments.

By using cutting-edge technology, the project hopes to reduce the environmental impact of garment production and create new possibilities for design. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the AI-led design in circular production cycle project is set to transform the future of the textile industry.

This project is supported by the WORTH partnership project, funded by the EU Programme for the Competitiveness of Enterprises and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (COSME)
