A new batch of European cities have chosen to take up the challenge and join the competition for the next European Green Capital and European Green Leaf Awards.

This Saturday, the French city of Grenoble will officially become the European Green Capital for 2022. It follows the city of Lahti in Finland, the 2021 title holder.

Today, the European Commission is calling on European cities embarking on the path to sustainability to apply for the 2024 European Green Capital and 2024 European Green Leaf Awards.

European Green Capital 2023 Award goes to the Estonian city of Tallinn.  The title of European Green Leaf 2022 jointly went to the Portuguese city of Valongo and Winterswijk in the Netherlands.

The finalists cities for European Green Capital 2023 are: Helsingborg (Sweden), Krakow (Poland), Sofia (Bulgaria) & Tallinn (Estonia). The finalists for European Green Leaf 2022 are: Bistrița (Romania), Elsinore (Denmark), Gavà (Spain), Treviso (Italy), Valongo (Portugal) & Winterswijk (Netherlands)
