Report
The meetings of the Member State Steering Committee of the ZPSP aim to enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing on Zero Pollution efforts among EU Member States.
The 3rd meeting discussed the EU Cohesion Policy (2021-2027) and the ways in which it overlaps with and supports the objectives of the Zero Pollution Action Plan regarding the zero pollution ambition in cities and regions. The urban dimension is relevant to bringing ‘Europe closer to citizens’ and will be complemented by a new European Urban Initiative (EUI) later in 2022.
Additionally, the Member States discussed lessons learnt from recent cases of cross-border and transboundary pollution. Topics for the discussion included EU law, early-warning systems and the need for coordination with neighbouring countries outside the EU.
Finally, the latest information on the preparation of the upcoming zero pollution legislative package and the Zero Pollution Monitoring and Outlook Report were shared.
