Workshop on the European Drought Risks Atlas & Drought Impacts Database

On 10 October, the JRC published the “European Droughts Impacts database” and the “European Droughts Risk Atlas”. This workshop allows the audience to ask all questions on the data and the methods used in the analysis. The database on impacts combines analyses between 1977 until 2022 (20.000 data points). Using machine learning, the Drought Risk Atlas then simulates the impact of temperature increase of +1.5, 2 and 3 degrees Celsius in the future. The simulations disclose in which regions of the European Union water will become scarcer than elsewhere and which economic sectors and subsectors will be affected most. Not only do the simulations confirm that droughts will occur significantly more often than in the past, the simulations also suggest that the effects will differ significantly according to economic sector and region.

The workshop is available to the public and will be streamed online.
