European Green Capital & European Green Leaf Ceremony 2025, in Tallinn

As the last step of the competition for the European Green Capital and European Green Leaf Awards is approaching, our current Green Capital, Tallinn (the capital of Estonia), is getting ready to host the Awards Ceremony for the next title winners in

We are pleased to announce that on 5 October at 18:00 (EEST, that is 17:00 Brussels time), the winners will be revealed during a festive ceremony in Kultuurikatel in Tallinn. Past and present winner cities will be gathering to honour this key and exciting moment of the Awards.

In the first selection stage, the expert assessment, three finalists were chosen for the European Green Capital Award 2025: Graz (Austria), Guimarães (Portugal) and Vilnius (Lithuania). Two finalists were chosen for the European Green Leaf Award 2025: Treviso (Italy) and Viladecans (Spain).

Representatives of the European Commission and members of the European Green Capital Network will be gathering from 4 to 6 of October 2023 to attend network meetings and to prepare for the Award Ceremony. The finalist cities will also be present and the lucky ones will receive their title and congratulations on stage.

The European Green Capital winner for 2025 will receive a financial prize of 600,000 euros and the European Green Leaf winner-s for 2025 will receive a financial prize of 200,000 euros. This reward is a huge opportunity allowing cities to quick-off many local projects. The winners will also see their positive media coverage increase as well as their alliances and new collaboration possibilities during their title year and beyond.

These two Awards are promoting and recognising the environmental achievements and initiatives of European cities that are strongly committed in making sustainability one of their top priorities. The programme extends to acknowledge the European Green Capital Network, composed of all winning and finalist cities since the launch of the competition, back in 2010. This ceremony recognises the efforts made by European cities to reach the European Green Deal goals and it is also an occasion to gather and to enjoy this moment together, sharing good practices and always bringing new ideas on the table for the future.

The next milestone event will happen early 2024, when Valencia will take over the baton as European Green Capital and celebrate with an Opening Ceremony in the city.
