Hosting Pollinator Park VR experience - Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Technical Q&A and instructions:

Is the interactive experience suitable for all ages?

Pollinator Park doesn’t contain any offensive content whatsoever, which technically makes it a suitable experience for all ages. However, please note that:

  • for now,the experience is only available in English, so it does require a decent level of understanding.
  • Oculus advises against the use of VR under the age of 13.
What’s the duration of the Pollinator Park experience?

If you wish to take in all of the content and interact with all installations, you’re looking at a 20 to 30 minute experience. However, just like in a museum or a zoo, you are completely free to move around and discover as much as you like: the experience is exploration-oriented and timings are merely an indication.

Will there be more language versions available in the future?

Yes. Pollinator Park will gradually be released in other (European) languages over the next few months.

Do I need to have some experience with games to be able to enjoy Pollinator Park?

No. The interactions and guidance are designed to make the experience easy and accessible for a broad range of users, even with no previous gaming experience.

Do I need a VR headset to play this experience?

No, you can also visit Pollinator Park in your web-browser.

Which VR headsets are supported?

At the moment, we support Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest 2.

How much space do I need to experience Pollinator Park in VR?

For your safety and comfort, make sure to clear a 2 x 2 metre surface to move around in this virtual universe.

Which web-browsers are supported?

At this time, WebGL 2.0 (the development technology used) is supported by Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.

Why does an error-message pop up when I try to launch the web experience?

Some platforms and browsers do not fully support the recent WebGL 2.0 technology. This means that:

  • Pollinator Park will not run on mobile smartphone web-browsers. The graphic performance needs are incompatible with the memory limitations of a smartphone or tablet web browser.
  • Pollinator Park will only run on the following desktop or laptop web-browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.
Can I run the Pollinator Park on my smartphone or tablet?

No. The graphic intensity of the experience requires more memory than a smartphone or tablet web browser can provide.

Pollinator Park is running very slow on my computer. Why is that?

The graphic intensity of the experience requires a decent amount of CPU and graphics performance. It is designed to run smoothly on most recent computers, but you might run into performance limits using:

  • An older computer without a dedicated graphics card
  • Very light laptops with minimal CPU power
What can I do to make the experience run smoother on my computer?

There are several things you can do to optimize the performance:

  • a quick fix is to make your browser window smaller.
  • if you’d rather not compromise on screen-size, you could turn to the in-game settings (bottom right) and switch to “best performance”.
  • ultimately, try enabling WebGL hardware acceleration in your browser’s settings (for Chrome, Firefox and Edge).
