A Ministerial Conference on the 30 years of the Natura 2000 network will take place on 24 and 25 February 2022 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. The conference will launch a year of celebrations of the 30 years anniversary of the Habitats Directive, the Natura 2000 network and the LIFE programme, established together on 21 May 1992.
The conference will take stock of the strengths and achievements of the Natura 2000 network. It will focus on best practices to reconcile human activities and nature conservation and discuss their replication and scaling up, in support of the achievement of the EU targets on restoration by 2030.

Description
Invited delegations from Member States and stakeholder organisations will debate governance, efficiency, restoration and financing of the network on 24 February afternoon in closed sessions.
On 25 February, participants will further discuss their findings and share best practice relevant in particular for disseminating knowledge on Natura 2000, using the Natura 2000 logo to advertise sustainable management of sites, and stepping up restauration. A Ministerial session will be held in parallel. All participants will gather for a closing session where Ministers will present the outcomes of their session, partners of the LIFE IP Biodiv’Est will launch their project, the Commission will disclose the finalists for the 2022 Natura 2000 Awards and open the voting phase for the Citizens Award.
Sharing experience with the community working on Natura 20000 is key: a collaborative page is available for all to upload short documents or data and advertise results and projects they suggest are best practice for the management of Natura 2000. It is open for everybody to upload. The wiki page can be found here. Access is granted following the creation of an EU Login account.
