Commissioners Simson, Sinkevičius and Hoekstra to attend G7 Ministers’ Meeting

Talks will take place between the Group of Seven's Climate, Energy & Environment Ministers in Turin, Italy.

The G7 is a key forum for the EU to push forward its ambitious green growth agenda and green cooperation with international partners.

On Monday and Tuesday (29-30 April), the three Commissioners will participate in the plenary meetings of the Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers, which will focus on how to build a sustainable decarbonised economy while ensuring social inclusion, as well as global energy security, the protection of critical energy infrastructure, and the environmental situation in Ukraine. 

Climate and Energy ministers will then meet to address climate and energy policies, discuss a roadmap on decarbonisation, and cooperation with partner countries. This will be followed by a meeting of Environment ministers to discuss inter alia the circular economy in building economic resilience and tackling global pollution, as well as boosting biodiversity.  

On Tuesday, a plenary meeting of the Climate, Energy and Environment Ministers will take place, with speakers sharing their perspectives on the work ahead before [climate] COP29, and future cooperation among the G7 and G20 and with partner countries. This will be followed by the adoption of the Ministerial Communiqué. The day concludes with a press conference

In the margins of the G7, the Commissioners will also hold a series of bilateral meetings. Commissioner Simson will meet with David Turk, US Deputy Secretary for Energy; Ken Saito, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry; and Gilberto Pichetto, Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security. Commissioner Sinkevičius will meet Marina Silva, Brazilian Minister of Environment and Climate Change; Steven Guilbeault, Canadian Minister for Environment; Christophe Béchu, French Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion; and Steve Barclay, UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Commissioner Hoekstra will hold bilateral meetings with Steven Guilbeault; Marina Silva; Ken Saito and Tetsuya Yagi, State Minister of the Environment; Fatih Birol, IEA Executive Director; and Gilberto Pichetto.
