Elsinore Climate Week took place from 4-15 September 2024 and featured a rich programme of activities to foster awareness and action on climate change, sustainability and biodiversity. Organised by the Elsinore municipality, which was proudly named the 2024 European Green Leaf winner, the event invited residents and organisations to participate in various activities promoting environmental consciousness.
The week began on Wednesday, 4 September, with a lecture by Signe Wenneberg on the topics of circular economy, consumption, resources and sustainable construction. This event took place at Toldkammeret from 19:00 to 21:00.
Throughout the week, attendees explored key themes such as biodiversity, recycling and sustainable urban living. Highlights included tours of the Skibstrup Recycling Centre, guided nature walks and discussions on managing rainwater in urban gardens. On Friday, 13 September, the Youth Climate Council gathered to launch this year's climate project applications for schools, encouraging young people to engage with sustainability initiatives.
The week wrapped up on Sunday, 15 September, with an open garden event at Økohaverne, demonstrating sustainable cultivation and composting practices. The Climate Heroes Exhibition was also displayed at Espergærde Library from 10-15 September, showcasing artwork created from reused materials. Additionally, throughout the week, local businesses supported sustainability by offering discounts on repair services, encouraging reuse and mindful consumption.
