Raising awareness about water resources in Malopolska

Lessons, ecological events and the "Aqua in Futurum" conference were held as part of the Malopolska Green Week.

Raising awareness about water resources in Malopolska

Małopolska Green Week 2024 placed strategies for resilience against water crises in Europe firmly in the spotlight. The event, held from June 3 to 7, involved various stakeholders, including environmental experts, scientists, and local government representatives. The main goals were to educate the public on water resource protection, promote sustainability, and discuss innovative climate adaptation strategies.

One significant challenge was raising public awareness and engaging a diverse audience on complex environmental issues. To address this, the organizers implemented several strategies. 30 online lessons were organised, each one was attended by over 600 people. 35 local governments from across Małopolska were involved in organizing these events.

In addition, the “Aqua in Futurum” conference was organised. It featured over 100 experts discussing blue-green infrastructure and sustainable water management, and community events focused on eco-friendly practices. The event brought together a wide group of experts, scientists, and representatives of local government units – over 100 participants in total.

The outcomes were tangible and impactful. The event successfully engaged a wide audience, including students and local communities. Key results included increased awareness about water conservation and sustainability, enhanced collaboration between experts and local governments, and tangible educational benefits for participants, with numerous lectures and discussions.

The success of Green Week 2024 had a profound impact on the community. It improved understanding of environmental issues and encouraged proactive engagement in sustainability practices. Participants provided positive feedback, expressing a greater commitment to eco-friendly initiatives.

The momentum from Green Week 2024 is being sustained through continuous education programs, ongoing collaboration between stakeholders, and regular community events focusing on environmental protection. This event effectively addressed crucial water management issues, raised public awareness, and fostered a collaborative approach to sustainability. The success of Green Week 2024 demonstrates the power of community engagement and expert collaboration in tackling environmental challenges.

The Marshal's Office of the Malopolska Region are already planning another meeting of this type dedicated to the protection of water in Małopolska.
