The European Commission is developing a preparatory study on textile products, which will provide the technical and scientific basis for future ecodesign requirements, green public procurement requirements, and revised EU Ecolabel criteria for textile products.
The first meeting with registered stakeholders is planned for 18-19 March 2024 (see the Project Plan). The related working document ‘Preparatory study on textiles for product policy instruments – 1st milestone’ is available at this webpage.
Stakeholders interested in joining the online meeting and/or commenting on the documents should register online (here).
The EU Ecolabel criteria for textile products were established in 2014. They cover a wide range of textile product groups and guarantee more sustainable fibre production, less polluting production processes, strict restrictions on the use of hazardous substances, and long-lasting products.
The revision process will take into account the changing economic, technological and legislative framework and align with the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles, and the proposal for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation adopted in 2022.
The European Commission team look forward to exchanging information with a broad range of registered stakeholders, including manufacturers, government bodies, NGOs, and consumers.
