Today, on the International Biodiversity Day, the European Commission is launching the 2024 edition of the European Natura 2000 Award.

On 21 May we celebrate European Natura 2000 Day. This day marks the creation, 31 years ago, of what is now the world’s largest network of protected areas. It offers a haven to Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitats.

The six winners of the 2022 Natura 2000 Award include projects from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Portugal, Spain and a cross-border project from Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Natura 2000 network, the European Commission has today announced the finalists for the sixth edition of the Natura 2000 Award.
