Vilnius 2025
The Lithuanian capital was elected as European Green Capital 2025 for its strong commitment to sustainability while having a realistic and down to earth approach. Vilnius’s motto for their European Green Capital title year is: “Vilnius - the greenest city in the making”.
Vilnius presented some of its encouraging achievements, engaging to keep improving thanks to a clear vision towards becoming a greener city and keep pushing boundaries.
The city already successfully reduced emission through various measures, such as increasing renewable energy sources and renovating heating infrastructure with the aim to become climate neutral by 2030. In addition to that, Vilnius is focusing its strategy on an efficient and solid citizen engagement, making happiness one of its top priorities. The city intertwines its sustainability efforts with the happiness of its residents, promoting initiatives concerning clean air and water, biodiversity preservation, green spaces, and more.
Vilnius’ tech-oriented approach to citizen engagement and participation is innovative: using an app citizens may engage in all relevant areas of city management and planning.
