Recent data from a few high-income countries suggests that the rate of pregnancies not requiring medical assistance is steadily declining, a trend that may be repeated globally. This study suggests a holistic approach to improve reproductive wellbeing that considers social and environmental factors.

This study used Eurostat data for 27 EU Member States (2015–2023) to investigate how sustainability performance and policies influence environmental and economic outcomes. In less technologically developed economies, it found more short-term trade-offs between competitiveness and sustainability.

The mosquito-borne West Nile Virus has become endemic in some southern European countries. This study investigated what happens to the virus during winter, finding that mosquito hosts exhibit reduced activity during colder and wetter periods, but are still active and spreading the virus.

Most plastic in the ocean is carried there by rivers. Japanese researchers observed plastic pollution when rivers were in flood and found that 90% of medium-sized plastic particles entered oceans during high discharge. The impact of flooding was less pronounced for microplastic pollution.
