The fifth EU Clean Air Forum brought together over 300 participants onsite at the World Conference Center in Bonn, along with more than 500 online attendees.

Participants included clean air stakeholders from across the EU, including Member States' competent authorities at all relevant levels, the European Commission, other European institutions, industry, civil society members, and the scientific community.

Description

This year's edition was framed within the context of the evaluation of the National Emission Reduction Commitments Directive, the results of which were published on 1 December 2025.

Sessions also focused on the competitiveness of air quality measures and clean technology investments, which reflected on the links between climate action and clean air policy, showcasing the contribution of Earth Observation to clean air policy.

“Investing in clean air is investing in our resilience and competitiveness. Policies to reduce air pollution have generated benefits that greatly outweigh their costs. Every euro spent for clean air generates at least four times the benefits.

The EU's policy to reduce air pollution is delivering solid results. Air quality has improved steadily over the past decades, and the EU is on track to cut the health impacts of air pollution by more than 55% by 2030 compared to 2005.”

Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy

In greater detail, the sessions covered the following topics:

  1. Earth observation and clean air
  2. Artificial intelligence and machine learning for air quality analysis
  3. Clean air innovation and investments for a competitive Europe
  4. Evaluation of the NEC Directive: Do our policies work?
  5. Regional action on clean air
  6. Climate and clean air: Tackling super pollutants and extreme events
  7. Improving how we talk about clean air and health
