The winners of the 2024 edition of the Natura 2000 Award have been announced!
The European Commission is proud to present the 6 winners of the 2024 edition of the European Natura 2000 Award!
On the 10-year anniversary of the Natura 2000 Award, the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, and high-level jury members announced the winners of the 2024 edition of the Natura 2000 Awards at the Award Ceremony held in Brussels on 29 May 2024. The six winners include initiatives from Estonia, Italy, Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

The high-level Jury chose the winner for each of the five categories, and the winner of the European Citizens’ Award was chosen by the public. The winners were announced at the exciting Natura 2000 Award Ceremony – you can discover how the ceremony unfolded, including photos of the event, here.
The European Natura 2000 Award rewards excellence in the management of Natura 2000 sites, and showcases the network’s added value of conserving nature for local communities and economies across the European Union. More information about the 2024 finalists can be found here.

Permanent grasslands in agricultural areas are important for biodiversity – especially pollinators. Researchers in Belgium found irregular, curved mowing patterns had positive effects on pollinators compared to conventional block cutting, and suggest promoting this approach.
